Social Media is everywhere these days, and it’s important to consider whether or not you want your guests to post photos or videos of your Wedding Day on the various platforms. Decide on a rule for your wedding and let your guests know, well in advance. Not stating a preference may give the impression that you are happy with social media sharing and will leave the door open for images to circulate freely.
Social Media Options
- Perhaps you would like them to wait until after the ceremony or even the following day to post.
- You might want to keep everything offline and intimate.
- Or maybe you are happy to encourage them to spread the wonderful news that you have tied the knot.
Whichever it is, put a polite little note on your Wedding Web Page or Invitations and use Word of Mouth to communicate your wishes. If you’re not comfortable with social media sharing on your Wedding Day, putting up a big sign at the ceremony may seem a little rude, so have the groundwork done in advance. You could ask your Wedding Planner to keep an eye out, advising guests gently as they circulate and mingle. However, be aware that no matter how many times you ask, some people will always forget, so be prepared for this and don’t let it ruin your big day.
How to Share your Big Day
You could invite your guests to post their photos on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, and you’ll get to see shots you might otherwise never see. However, be aware that they will be unfiltered and you cannot edit them, so if this is a problem for you, think twice before encouraging posting.
If you’re happy that photos are shared you might like to create a dedicated Wedding Instagram Page. Give your guests the login so they can share pictures of your day all in one place. This is a great way to compliment your official photos.
Why not create your own unique personalised hashtag to compile photos of your Wedding Day. Better check in advance it doesn’t already exist though, or there could be a clash. You could circulate this to your guests in advance of the wedding.
Whichever route you choose, make your request known. Wedding guests will appreciate knowing in advance rather than wondering if they are allowed to post or not, so don’t be afraid to get your message across.
