You’re planning your wedding, and there is a lot to think about. You want as many of your family and friends to witness the event. So, for just one moment, consider your guests and how you can make it easier for them to attend the Wedding of the Year.
Provide Plenty of Information
Give your guests as much notice as you can, especially if it’s a destination wedding. Consider sending a Save the Date notice. Perhaps create a Wedding Web Page to provide them with all the information they need. It will put their minds at ease and save you a lot of phone calls.
Be conscious that not all your guests can afford to stay in a 5* hotel for a few days. Provide alternative options and suggestions for them. You need to make it easy for them to attend.
Dress Code - Let Guests Know Early
From very early on in your planning, you need to consider the look or theme of your wedding. Do you have a style you would like your guests to conform to i.e. Black Tie, Boho-Chic, etc? If so, ensure it is stated clearly on the invitation.
Have you any particular no-nos. Are you happy if someone turns up in flip-flops, shorts and a dickie-bow or an outfit that’s not much bigger than a swimsuit? If not, you need to let your guests know. And it’s important to let them know from very early on if there is a set dress code. Many will shop early for that perfect outfit and will not be pleased to discover it’s not suitable.
If you are having a Church Wedding, guests will need to be mindful not to wear anything too revealing, but they could include a shrug or pashmina in their outfit for wearing during the ceremony. Advise them of any restrictions.
Ensure Guests will be Comfortable
Make your wedding fun not formal. This is a celebration of your love, a happy time for everyone and it should feel that way. Guests stuffed into uncomfortable suits and having to watch their Ps and Qs will remember your wedding for the wrong reasons.
While a rustic, cobblestoned courtyard, or a lawn or beach setting is very romantic for your ceremony, it’s a killer for anyone in high heels. Let the ladies know in advance. Why not bring a selection of flip flops for those tired feet in the evening? They can be picked up very cheaply before you travel. Include a few large sizes for the guys, they may not admit it, but they’ll be grateful too!
Guests will find it helpful if you let them know what weather they can expect on the day of your wedding. Should they bring a cardigan or jacket, or maybe a large umbrella?
If your venue is a beautiful villa deep in the countryside, will your guests be able to buy cigarettes throughout the day, or should they stock up in advance. Let them know.
If you are inviting children to your wedding, take their needs into consideration too and provide goodie bags or something to keep them amused. A cranky child will make everyone feel uncomfortable, so plan ahead.
