Whether you wedding is at home or abroad; whether you will have 20 or 200 guests, there are some basic planning tips which will be of benefit to all. Being organised, is the most important.
At the very beginning of your wedding planning invest in a little diary or notebook, set yourself monthly checks, and write everything down. As it gets closer to your Wedding Day, these notes will become invaluable.
The big things like ceremony, reception, flowers, photographer, etc. will be booked and organised well in advance, but what about the smaller details, ones which can get overlooked. Add the following to your to-do list.
Wedding To-Do List
Read through your ceremony text and practice saying your vows out loud. You want it to appear seamless and natural on the day. A little preparation will ease your mind and remove the stress.
Know your timings. Being late for the ceremony will have a knock-on effect on the entire day. Your guests will be a little annoyed, you may have to cut your photos short and your meal may even be a little over-cooked, and all because you were a little late at the start of the day. Perhaps ask a family member or friend to take on the role of keeping you to time.
Decide how you’re going to get there, know the route and who’s bringing you, but have a back-up plan. Don’t just rely on the Satnav, have your driver do a test run, so they are confident of getting you there on time. Cutting it tight and discovering road closures along the way, is only going to add to your stress levels.
Don’t wait until your Wedding to wear your new shoes. Wear them for a few minutes every day around the house in the lead up to your big day. Sore feet are to be avoided.
When you collect your dress, try it on. Make sure it fits, the buttons are not loose, the zip closes, the length is correct with your shoes. It will be too late to correct a problem one hour before your ceremony. The same goes for your bridesmaids’ dresses and the boys’ suits.
Your table seating plan can be one of the most stressful parts of your Wedding as this is where the family politics come into play. Try and seat natural groups together, guests will be glad of it, and it will make your life a lot easier. Make sure to confirm your numbers with the venue. The number you confirm is the number of guests you pay for.
Pack your bag, not just for your Wedding, but also your Honeymoon. Prepare a Bridal Emergency Kit containing pins, clips, make-up, plasters, headache tablets, etc., and ask one of your girls to look after it for you on the day.
Organise supplier payments into envelopes, seal and mark them clearly. This can be done in advance as you have the money. Nominate a trusted family member or friend to look after the payments on your Wedding Day.
Don’t forget gifts for bridesmaids, flower-girls, parents, your new hubby (if you’re doing one).
Provide your photographer with a list of “must have” shots. Not too many though, as everyone will want to get back to the party.
Check the weather nearer the day and make any adjustments necessary. Perhaps you’ll need to bring a few umbrellas for the bridal party. It’s worth checking - you don’t want to get snowed in.
Delegate
It’s important to have all the big things booked early. Booking professionals will remove any worries. Trust them, they are expert in their fields and you can rely on them to do a good job.
Your close family and friends will want to get involved so don’t be afraid to ask for help and delegate some tasks. This will take the pressure off you and they will be only too delighted to help. Trying to do everything by yourself will only leave you tired and stressed out, and may affect your enjoyment of your Wedding Day.
Relax and enjoy the experience. Take an afternoon out of your busy schedule to allow you wind down. Go for a pamper, put your feet up, do whatever makes you feel good, look after yourself. Enjoy the build-up to your wedding day, don’t stress.
