There’s an abundance of ways to gather ideas together for your Wedding Day. It’s hard to escape Social Media and the thousands of great images and suggestions while Wedding magazines display stunning photographs of the latest trends available. This can all be very helpful when you don’t know where to start, but don’t become obsessed with trying to recreate a Pinterest-perfect wedding.
Many images online and in magazines are from styled photo-shoots, not real weddings and are created with a huge budget, one that most of us don’t have. Trying to achieve Champagne ideas on a Prosecco budget will only lead to unnecessary stress and may leave you disappointed.
Consider, how many of your guests will notice if the shade of pink is not exact, or the table runner is a little short. So, don’t get hung up on the tiny details. Take ideas, certainly, but don’t expect to completely replicate the effect.
Wedding Trends
When it comes to hair styles you won’t know from a picture if they have they used extensions. Is the model’s hair thicker/longer/curlier than yours? Did it take 6 hours to recreate the look you see – you won’t have that long to get ready on your wedding day. Have a hair trial and discuss with your hairdresser what will work best for your hair type and length.
The same applies to make-up. Just because dark brown smokey eyes and burgundy lips are in fashion doesn’t mean it will suit your complexion or skin type. Have a full consultation with your make-up artist to see what looks best on you.
When it comes to choosing your dress, not only have you the Internet and Magazines for ideas, but also a multitude of TV programmes too. This is one area where you can completely burst your budget, so be very careful. Set yourself a realistic budget and only look at dresses that you can afford. Teasing yourself by trying on the most expensive dress will only leave you disappointed, as nothing will compare. Before you try on a dress, have a look at the price tag.
On Pinterest and Instagram you will find an assortment of cakes, beautifully crafted and detailed, but very few prices. Check with your venue if they have a cake included in your package and what it might look like. Use social media photos as a guide only, a starting place for your discussion with the baker. Exactly recreating the cake you have seen may not be possible. Was the cake in the photo even real?
When we look at photos online of beautiful weddings there is always an abundance of floristry creations. Be careful. A lot of time is spent creating floral arches and large displays, so they can be pricey and flowers that are out of season are more expensive. When you meet your florist by all means bring a few images as a reference, but have a clear budget and try to stick to it.
One area where Social Media really takes off is in relation to Fads and Fashions. Every year there is the “must have” and it can vary from Donut Walls to Mimosa Bars and Gin Tastings, etc., but do you want to repeat what everyone else has done just for the sake of it. If the latest fashion is for a deep coloured wedding dress, you might want to ask yourself whether you'll regret the decision in 10 years’ time, but if you're 100% confident in doing something different, go for it!
Keep Your Wedding Personal
Try not to get caught up in repeating what you have seen on Pinterest or Instagram. It’s very difficult to completely replicate an effect and you don’t want to be disappointed on your wedding day. Focus on the important stuff - getting married to the one you love.
By all means, use Social Media to gather ideas together of what you like, or don’t like, but don’t become overwhelmed or obsessed. You can then start your discussions with suppliers from a knowledge base, but have realistic expectations for your budget.
Don’t be afraid to give your wedding the personal touch.
Remember, guests will not notice the small details, but they will notice if you are stressed out. At Marry Me in Lake Garda we encourage all our couples to relax, take in the experience of getting married and have fun on their wedding day.
